Anulom vilom or Nadi Shodhana pranayama

Anulom vilom, also known as Nadi Shodhana pranayama or alternate nostril breathing, is a yogic breathing technique that involves inhaling and exhaling through alternate nostrils. This technique is believed to bring balance to the body and mind, reduce stress, improve breathing function, and increase focus and concentration.

  •  Here are the steps to perform Anulom Vilom:

1. Sit in a comfortable position with your spine straight and your eyes closed.

2. Rest your left hand on your left knee and bring your right hand up towards your face.

3. Use your right thumb to close your right nostril and inhale deeply through your left nostril.

4. Once you have inhaled completely, use your ring finger or pinky finger to close your left nostril and exhale slowly through your right nostril.

5. Keeping your left nostril closed, inhale deeply through your right nostril.

6. Once you have inhaled completely, use your thumb to close your right nostril and exhale slowly through your left nostril.

7. This completes one cycle of Anulom Vilom. Repeat for several cycles, gradually increasing the length of your inhalations and exhalations as you become more comfortable with the technique.

  •  The benefits of Anulom Vilom include:

1. Reducing stress and anxiety

2. Improving lung function and respiratory health

3. Enhancing mental clarity and concentration

4. Balancing the nervous system

5. Improving blood circulation

6. Reducing inflammation in the body

7. Promoting relaxation and calmness.

It is important to note that you should always consult a qualified yoga teacher or healthcare professional before attempting any new exercise or breathing technique, particularly if you have any underlying health conditions.
